Civil Servants Warned Over Rare Earth Plant Protests
KUANTAN, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government Thursday warned of disciplinary action against state civil servants who are caught joining protests against the construction of a rare earth plant in Gebeng.
State Secretary Datuk Seri Muhammad Safian Ismail said civil servants who wanted to state their views on the Lynas rare earth plant could channel them through their heads of department.
They were also encouraged to convey their views directly to him, he told reporters here.
Muhammad Safian said it was believed that 15 per cent of state civil servants had been influenced by the propaganda against the construction of the plant.
Some of them had even pasted the "Stop Lynas" sticker on their vehicles, he said.
Muhammad Safian said these civil servants had fallen for the claims of certain quarters because of the absence of information on the actual situation which he added would be provided to them through periodical briefing sessions by the heads of department.
The RM700-million rare earth plant is to proceed as long as the company complied with the recommendations of a nine-man International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) panel which reviewed the plant.
